Victims bitten near Kenilworth Ave and Decatur St
Incident Information
Two separate dog attacks within a short timeframe left multiple individuals injured on Tuesday morning in Prince George’s County, raising concerns about public safety and animal control enforcement in the area.
The first incident was reported around 8:30 a.m. on April 28, 2026, near the intersection of Kenilworth Avenue and Decatur Street in Edmonston. Police arriving on the scene encountered a woman who had been bitten by dogs she was associated with. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the location.
Shortly after, authorities received a second call from nearby, where another woman had also been attacked by dogs believed to be from the same group. Unlike the first victim, the second woman required transportation to a hospital for further treatment. Her injuries were also described as non-life-threatening.
As the situation developed, officers located multiple dogs actively attacking another animal in the area. When the dogs re-emerged near a residence, an officer discharged a weapon, killing one of the animals. Another dog was captured using a control device, while at least one additional dog fled the scene and remained unaccounted for at the time of reporting.
Witnesses reported seeing up to four dogs roaming the area, with some describing them as possibly Rottweilers. However, officials have not confirmed the breed or ownership details. The circumstances surrounding how the dogs became loose remain under investigation.
The Prince George’s County Police Department Internal Affairs Division has initiated a review of the officer-involved shooting, which is standard protocol in such cases. Animal Control also responded to assist in securing the remaining animals.
While the injuries reported were not life-threatening, the incident underscores how quickly uncontrolled animals can pose risks to the public, especially in residential and mixed-use areas.
