Tamica Wilson, 50, died several days after suffering life-threatening injuries
Incident Information
A Prince George’s County pedestrian collision that initially left a woman critically injured has become a fatal investigation after the victim died from her injuries.
Police identified the woman as Tamica Wilson, 50, of Upper Marlboro.
The collision occurred at approximately 1:10 p.m. Monday, August 31, in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway and Columbia Park Road in Landover.
Emergency personnel found Wilson in the roadway after she had been struck by a vehicle. She was taken to a hospital with injuries described by authorities as serious and life-threatening.
Despite medical treatment, Wilson died on September 4.
According to the preliminary investigation, Wilson was attempting to cross Martin Luther King Jr. Highway when she was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. Investigators have not publicly released the make or model of the vehicle.
The driver was not injured and remained at the scene following the collision.
Police have not announced charges, and investigators are continuing to examine why the collision occurred and the events immediately before Wilson entered the vehicle’s path.
The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation.
The location is along Martin Luther King Jr. Highway, also designated Maryland Route 704, a major roadway through the Landover area. Columbia Park Road intersects the highway in an area carrying a mix of commuter and local traffic.
Investigators may rely on physical evidence, witness accounts, surveillance video, vehicle information and roadway conditions as they reconstruct the collision.
Wilson’s death turned what was originally investigated as a serious-injury pedestrian crash into a fatal traffic case several days after the incident.
