A Maryland Transit Administration Bus Strikes a Man and a Pole In a Pedestrian Accident Resulting in Death
Incident Information
Tragedy struck in Baltimore Sunday evening when a Maryland Transit Administration bus collided with a man on a scooter, resulting in his untimely death. The incident occurred around 6:12 p.m. at the busy intersection of East Pratt and Light street, prompting swift emergency response from city police. Sadly, the victim, identified as 31-year-old Marquise Fortune, did not survive his injuries.
The Inner Harbor of Baltimore came to a standstill when both streets were shut down due to the accident. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and unsettling. One witness, Amari Williams, looked on as a bus collided with the man on the scooter, causing him to fall off the vehicle. The man was then trapped under a light pole as it toppled over.
Some witnesses claimed they saw the bus swerve to avoid hitting him and others stated that the vehicle hit him before being forced into a nearby light pole. Unfortunately, the pole broke and fell, crushing Fortune and fatally injuring him. Fire officials have confirmed that Fortune was pinned under the pole, and their attempts to free him were unsuccessful. The bus driver, who police confirmed was also hospitalized with minor injuries, is now a key witness as authorities attempt to piece together the events leading up to the crash. In addition to Fortune’s tragic death, two others were reported to have suffered injuries in the accident; however, they are expected to make a full recovery.
Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Mr. Fortune during this difficult time. It serves as an important reminder to all drivers, passengers, and pedestrians to remain aware of their surroundings and the potential dangers on the road.
