Semi-Truck Accident on Interstate 95 Results in Injuries and Death

Tragedy struck the community of Baltimore this past weekend as Denzel Butcher lost his life in a vehicle collision. Around 2:30 am, the Maryland State Police reported that Butcher, driving a 2019 Nissan Altima, was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer near the intersection of Interstate 95 South at Chesaco Avenue early Saturday morning. Despite immediate medical attention, Butcher did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

A 28-year-old man who was in the passenger’s side of the Nissan was rushed to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, for extensive treatment of his injuries. Investigations are underway to determine whether the Nissan Altima was disabled in the third lane and unable to move before it was hit by the tractor-trailer. As a result of the crash, the southbound lanes of I-95 had to be closed down for five long hours.

The Maryland Transportation Authority Police and personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration aided in helping with the necessary road closures. The accident also prompted the involvement of the Maryland State Police Crash Team to take the lead. Both JFK Memorial Highway Barrack troopers and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division are also lending their support to the investigation into the collision. It’s always difficult to process these devastating events and we hope that the authorities’ efforts will help bring some measure of closure.
