Passenger suffered serious injuries in the Three Notch Road crash
Incident Information
A violent single-vehicle rollover in St. Mary’s County left one passenger seriously injured and prompted a Maryland State Police helicopter response Tuesday evening.
Police, firefighters and emergency medical crews were dispatched at approximately 7:30 p.m. on September 29, 2026, to the area of Three Notch Road and Joy Lane in Hollywood.
Initial 911 calls described a vehicle that had overturned with an unknown number of injuries.
First responders arrived to find a sedan lying on its side in the median and two injured occupants. One of the patients was reportedly outside or near the vehicle.
Because of the passenger’s condition, EMS requested an aviation response. Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 2 landed near the crash site and transported the adult passenger to an area trauma center with serious injuries.
The driver was taken by ground ambulance to a hospital for evaluation. That person’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
Southern Maryland News Net reported that witnesses told authorities the sedan had allegedly been traveling recklessly and at speeds exceeding 100 mph before the crash. Witnesses also reported that the car rolled several times. Those accounts remain part of an active police investigation and have not been announced as final investigative findings.
Authorities said the driver was initially placed into custody after first responders received information about a possible firearm. Charges were listed as pending the outcome of the investigation.
The exact make and model of the sedan and the identities of the occupants were not publicly released.
