Nijee Williams-Seck, 21, died after the collision on Snow Hill Road
Incident Information
A two-vehicle collision involving a passenger car and a Freightliner box truck in Worcester County killed a 21-year-old driver and sent two other people to hospitals Wednesday morning.
Maryland State Police said troopers from the Berlin Barrack were dispatched shortly before 10:30 a.m. on September 2 to Snow Hill Road at St. Lukes Road.
Investigators determined that a Nissan Maxima was traveling northbound on Snow Hill Road when it crossed into the southbound lanes for reasons that remained under investigation. The Nissan then collided with a Freightliner box truck.
The impact caused the truck to overturn, according to local reporting.
The Nissan’s driver, identified as Nijee Williams-Seck, 21, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
A 17-year-old female passenger in the Nissan suffered injuries serious enough that the Maryland State Police Aviation Command flew her to a trauma center.
The 36-year-old man driving the Freightliner was also injured. Emergency personnel transported him by ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment. His identity was not released in the initial report.
The collision resulted in a lengthy shutdown of Snow Hill Road. Authorities closed the roadway between Nassawango Church Road and St. Lukes Road while emergency crews, police and recovery personnel worked at the scene. The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office reported that the roadway reopened at approximately 4 p.m.
Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division personnel responded because a commercial box truck was involved. The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration and area fire and emergency medical agencies also assisted.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation. Authorities had not announced why the Nissan crossed the center of the roadway when the initial report was published.
