James Bandoch, 68, was pronounced dead at the Northwind Road crash scene
Incident Information
Baltimore County crash investigators are examining a fatal collision involving a bicyclist and a dump truck that occurred Tuesday morning in the Carney/Perry Hall area.
Police identified the cyclist as James Bandoch, 68.
Officers were called shortly after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, to the intersection of Northwind Road and Trailwood Road.
Early emergency reports initially described the victim as a pedestrian, but Baltimore County police later clarified that Bandoch had been riding a bicycle.
According to the preliminary investigation, the dump truck was traveling westbound on Northwind Road.
The truck then made a right turn onto Trailwood Road, where it struck Bandoch.
Emergency personnel pronounced Bandoch dead at the scene.
Authorities had not publicly released the identity of the dump-truck driver, and the make and model of the truck were not identified in the available reports.
Baltimore County’s Crash Team is investigating how the collision occurred.
Police had not announced charges or citations, and investigators had not publicly identified additional contributing circumstances at the time the reports were released.
The collision occurred less than a day after another fatal Baltimore County traffic crash that killed 75-year-old Maureen Hahn in Towson. Police were also investigating the death of 13-year-old cyclist Caden Morgan, who died September 8 from injuries suffered in a separate August collision.
Those incidents are separate and authorities have not indicated any connection between them.
For the Northwind Road investigation, detectives will continue working to establish the precise positions and movements of the truck and bicycle immediately before the impact.
