Victim died after collision near Goshen Road
Incident Information
A fatal early-morning crash involving a Montgomery County Ride On bus and a passenger vehicle left one man dead and prompted an extended road closure during the morning commute.
The collision occurred around 4:47 a.m. on May 1, 2026, at the intersection of Mid County Highway and Goshen Road. Emergency crews from Montgomery County Police and Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and found significant damage involving the bus and another vehicle.
Authorities confirmed that the victim, who was driving the passenger vehicle, was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.
The Ride On bus involved in the crash was not carrying passengers at the time, as it was en route to its first scheduled stop of the day. The bus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Road closures remained in place for several hours while emergency responders secured the area and conducted an initial investigation. Traffic disruptions extended into the morning hours before the roadway was fully reopened.
Officials have not released the make or model of the passenger vehicle, nor have they identified any contributing factors such as speed, failure to yield, or roadway conditions. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Crashes involving public transit vehicles often draw additional scrutiny due to their potential to impact multiple passengers and commuters. In this case, the absence of passengers on the bus likely prevented additional injuries.
As investigators continue their review, further details may provide insight into how the collision occurred and whether any preventative measures could reduce similar incidents in the future.
