Car Accident Victim Dies On Westbound Route 50

Police in Maryland say a woman has died and another person is in critical condition after a two-car crash on Route 50. Investigators say the accident happened early Tuesday morning when a Honda CRV hit the rear of an Acura MDX, causing both cars to spin out into the median. The Honda came to rest after hitting a tree, and the passenger in the front right seat of the Acura was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda, 21-year-old Sammy Sung Hyun Hwang, and the driver of the Acura, whose name has not been released, were both taken to a local hospital for treatment.

37-year-old Neltha Perard was transported to Tidal Health Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury with life-threatening injuries after being involved in a car crash. According to police, the driver of the car that Perard was in will be charged with DUI pending the results of a test and more information from the police crash team and the medical examiner’s office. The crash caused Westbound Route 50 to be closed for about four hours. Perard was later transported to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
