2020 Yamaha Motorcycle Collided With a 2003 Ford Expedition Resulting in Injuries and Death

A tragic motorcycle accident resulted in the death of a 19-year-old man in Anne Arundel County on Sunday afternoon.
The crash took place on September 22, 2024, around 1:00 p.m. on Solomon’s Island Road near Old South River Road South, just south of the South River Bridge in Edgewater.
According to Anne Arundel County Police, 19-year-old Daniel Joseph Helmly Jr. of Lothian, Maryland, was riding a 2020 Yamaha motorcycle northbound on Solomon’s Island Road when it collided with a 2003 Ford Expedition. The Expedition was making a left turn onto Old South River Road South at the time of the crash.
Helmly was pronounced dead at the scene by Anne Arundel County EMS.
The driver of the Ford Expedition, a 52-year-old woman from Rockville, Maryland, and her passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section. Additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
