One Dead and Two Hospitalized After Somerset County Crash

A tragic accident in Somerset County claimed the life of a 72-year-old driver, as Maryland State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

The crash occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. near Ocean Highway and Flower Hill Church Road and involved a Kia Soul and a Jeep. According to police, the Kia was attempting to cross the southbound lanes when it was struck.

The driver of the Kia Soul was pronounced dead at the scene. One passenger in the vehicle was airlifted in critical condition to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command. Another passenger, along with the driver of the Jeep, sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance for treatment.

Troopers from the Princess Anne Barrack responded to the scene at approximately 5:21 p.m. and launched an active investigation to determine the cause of the crash. The exact circumstances leading to the collision remain under review.
