Salisbury Mayor Hits Pedestrian Using a Walker at Intersection
Incident Information
SALISBURY, MD — Salisbury Mayor Randy Taylor was involved in a traffic incident involving a pedestrian on Monday, according to both the Mayor’s office and Maryland State Police.
Police say the Salisbury Police Department requested assistance from Maryland State Police shortly before 10 a.m. on August 4, following a crash at the intersection of South Salisbury Boulevard and South Boulevard. Investigators report that the vehicle involved in the incident was city-owned and being driven by Mayor Taylor.
According to authorities, a pedestrian using a walker was crossing the street when the city vehicle made contact with the walker. Police say Mayor Taylor was attempting to make a right turn onto South Salisbury Boulevard at the time.
Both Mayor Taylor and the pedestrian declined medical treatment at the scene.
Later that afternoon, around 4:30 p.m., the City of Salisbury released a statement from Mayor Taylor addressing the incident.
“While the exact details of the accident are still being reviewed, the pedestrian was not hit,” Taylor stated. “It seems only the wheel of the walker made contact with the rear of my vehicle.”
Mayor Taylor added that the pedestrian sustained minor abrasions and confirmed he remained at the scene throughout the morning. He also noted that he provided the individual with a replacement walker, courtesy of the Salisbury Lions Club.
Maryland State Police say the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
