Teen Killed While Changing Tire Along Baltimore Beltway

Maryland State Police are investigating a deadly Baltimore County crash in which a 17-year-old passenger was struck while outside a disabled vehicle along Interstate 695.

The collision happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. on August 2, 2026, on the outer loop of I-695 east of southbound Interstate 83. Troopers from the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack responded after receiving a report of a pedestrian-involved crash.

Police said a Lexus IS had become disabled in the far-right travel lane. The 17-year-old passenger, an Edgewood resident whose name was not released, had gotten out of the Lexus and was attempting to change a tire. Investigators believe the Lexus had its hazard lights activated at the time.

For reasons that remained under investigation, a Honda Accord struck the rear driver’s side of the disabled Lexus and then struck the teenager standing outside it. The Honda’s driver remained at the scene.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced the teenager dead at the crash scene. The Lexus driver, identified by state police as 18-year-old Kyeahle Lamerah Armstead of Baltimore, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities reported no other injuries at the scene.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team took responsibility for the investigation. The State Highway Administration assisted with the response and road closures, which lasted approximately three hours.

The crash also prompted state police to remind drivers to contact emergency services when a vehicle becomes disabled in an active roadway rather than remaining exposed to moving traffic. The investigation remained active when the August 3 release was issued.
