Manuel Mateo-Molina, 20, died one day after the Temple Hills collision
Incident Information
A late-night hit-and-run collision in Temple Hills has left a 20-year-old electric bicycle rider dead as Prince George’s County investigators work to identify the SUV driver who left the scene.
Prince George’s County police said the collision occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. Monday, September 7, near the intersection of St. Barnabas Road and Stamp Road.
The rider was identified as Manuel Mateo-Molina, 20, of Temple Hills.
Officers responding to the intersection found Mateo-Molina lying in the roadway following a collision involving his electric bicycle and an SUV. Police said he later died from his injuries on Tuesday, September 8.
According to the preliminary investigation, Mateo-Molina and the SUV were both traveling in the eastbound lanes of St. Barnabas Road before the collision.
Investigators believe the SUV struck the e-bike rider from behind. The circumstances that led to the impact remain under investigation.
The SUV driver did not remain at the scene. Police said preliminary information suggests the vehicle may be dark blue and may have sustained front-end damage. Authorities have not released a specific make or model.
The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation. Detectives are seeking witnesses and anyone whose dash camera, doorbell camera, or home-surveillance system may have recorded the SUV or the collision.
The fatal collision highlights the vulnerability of people using bicycles and e-bikes when sharing multilane roads with larger vehicles. Investigators have not announced an arrest or identified the driver involved, and the precise reason the SUV struck Mateo-Molina remains under investigation.
