Authorities had not released the names of either injured person.
Incident Information
Two people were hospitalized following a Tuesday morning collision near Bel Air that left one driver trapped inside a pickup truck and required firefighters to dismantle portions of the vehicle.
Emergency personnel were dispatched at approximately 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, to the area of Route 1 and Kalmia Road. Members of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company arrived to find two vehicles that had traveled into a ditch.
One person remained trapped inside a pickup truck.
Firefighters first stabilized the damaged vehicles to protect both the patient and rescuers. Crews then used specialized extrication equipment to remove the pickup’s door and roof, creating enough space to safely free the trapped occupant.
Both people involved required additional medical care. One patient was transported to a trauma center, indicating the need for a higher level of evaluation or treatment, while the second person was transported to a local hospital. Authorities did not publicly describe the patients’ precise injuries or conditions in the initial report.
The names of the injured individuals were not released. The make and model of the pickup and the second vehicle were likewise not included in Patch’s report.
Investigators had not determined or publicly announced the cause of the crash as of the article’s latest update. With both vehicles found off the roadway, investigators will likely consider their direction of travel and movements before impact while determining the sequence of events.
The response demonstrates why rescue operations following crashes can continue well beyond the initial impact, particularly when vehicle deformation leaves an occupant unable to exit without hydraulic cutting equipment.
