Incident Information

A 32-year-old Mechanicsville man died from injuries sustained in a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Route 301 and Maryland Route 234 in Newburg on November 15, 2025.

Mark Wroble Jr., the driver of a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, was pronounced dead on November 16 at approximately 7:07 p.m. at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., where he had been transported with severe injuries.

The crash occurred around 7:41 a.m. on November 15, prompting a response from Maryland State Police troopers from the La Plata Barrack and deputies from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Due to the complexity and seriousness of the incident, the Maryland State Police CRASH Team took over the investigation.

According to preliminary findings, Wroble’s Pathfinder—with four passengers onboard—was stopped at a red light on Maryland Route 234 at U.S. Route 301. A 2021 Ford Explorer driven by Brett Adams, 54, of Leonardtown, with passenger Judy Adams, 62, was stopped directly behind it.

Meanwhile, a 2009 Nissan Maxima driven by Rodney Clark, 33, of Port Tobacco, was heading north on U.S. Route 301 when it veered off the right side of the road. The Maxima hit a storm drain and ditch, went airborne, and crashed into the driver’s side of the Pathfinder. The impact pushed both the Pathfinder and Maxima into the Ford Explorer.

Wroble sustained life-threatening injuries and required critical transport to the trauma center in Washington, D.C. All others involved—including the Pathfinder’s passengers, the occupants of the Explorer, and Clark—were taken to local hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The intersection remained closed for several hours during the investigation. Authorities have not announced any charges as they continue to examine factors such as speed, road conditions, and possible driver distractions.
