Car Accident: One Critically Injured on Charles Street

Incident Information

A 14-year-old is in critical condition after a dirt bike collided with a car at the intersection of Charles Street and Washington Avenue. The crash occurred at 9:07 p.m., leading to a prompt response from the La Plata Police Department (LPPD).

According to initial investigations, the accident took place when a Chevy Malibu was making a left turn from Washington Avenue onto Charles Street. The dirt bike, operated by the teenager, failed to stop at a red light and struck the car. The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bike on impact.

Emergency services responded quickly, with a Maryland State Police Helicopter airlifting the injured teen to a nearby trauma center. The juvenile remains in critical condition.

The LPPD’s Collision Reconstruction Unit took over the investigation shortly after the crash, working to piece together the exact events that led to the collision.

The names of those involved have not been released. The driver of the Chevy Malibu stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

As the investigation continues, the LPPD is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit with any additional details that may assist in the investigation.
