Incident Information

A White Plains man was killed Monday evening when his vehicle left Billingsley Road and struck a tree, according to authorities in Charles County.

Police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel were dispatched shortly after 8:20 p.m. September 14 to the 8400 block of Billingsley Road for a report of a serious crash involving entrapment.

Investigators later identified the driver as Daniel Corbett Wagner, 41, of White Plains.

According to the preliminary investigation, Wagner was traveling westbound on Billingsley Road when his vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree.

Initial emergency reports indicated that the vehicle sustained severe damage and that the driver was heavily trapped. Maryland State Police Aviation Command launched Trooper 2 in anticipation that the patient might need to be flown to a trauma center.

Emergency personnel ultimately pronounced Wagner dead at the scene at approximately 8:47 p.m., and the helicopter response was canceled before landing.

Authorities said Wagner was the only person inside the vehicle.

Police did not identify the vehicle’s make or model in the information available at the time of publication. Investigators were also still working to determine why the vehicle left the road.

The Charles County Traffic Operations Unit continued investigating and asked anyone who witnessed the crash or had information to assist investigators.
