Christopher Umanzor, 28, died following crash near Marlow Heights.
Incident Information
A late-night crash in Prince George’s County turned deadly after a collision along a busy commercial stretch of Branch Avenue on March 27, 2026. The crash occurred around 9:10 p.m. in the 4300 block of Branch Avenue near the Marlow Heights Shopping Center, a high-traffic area lined with retail businesses and dealerships.
Authorities identified the victim as Christopher Umanzor, 28, of Waldorf, Maryland. According to investigators, Umanzor’s vehicle struck the rear of another car traveling along the roadway. The force of the impact caused both vehicles to leave the road, with Umanzor’s vehicle continuing forward and crashing into a guardrail.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Umanzor was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the second vehicle were not injured and remained on-site to assist investigators.
Police have not released additional details regarding contributing factors such as speed, distraction, or impairment. The makes and models of the vehicles involved were also not disclosed in initial reports. The Prince George’s County Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Branch Avenue is known for heavy traffic volumes and frequent stop-and-go conditions, particularly near commercial centers. Rear-end collisions in these environments can escalate quickly, especially when vehicles are traveling at higher speeds.
Fatal crashes like this underscore the importance of maintaining safe following distances and remaining attentive in high-density traffic corridors.
