Essex Man Dies in Multi-Vehicle Chain-Reaction Crash in Baltimore
Incident Information
Baltimore, MD — A 31-year-old man from Essex was killed Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on the inner loop of I-695 near Perring Parkway, Maryland State Police reported. The victim, James Beckham, was driving a Nissan Sentra that collided with another vehicle, setting off a chain reaction involving three additional cars.
Troopers from the Golden Ring Barrack responded to the scene shortly after 8 a.m., where they found several vehicles disabled across the roadway. Investigators determined that Beckham’s Sentra struck the corner of a Toyota C-HR, which then led to subsequent collisions with a Nissan Altima and a Toyota RAV4. Beckham was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Nissan Altima, 26-year-old Dante Summers of Nottingham, was taken to a hospital for treatment. The drivers of the Toyota C-HR and Toyota RAV4, as well as a passenger in the RAV4, were not injured.
The inner loop of I-695 was shut down for several hours while crash reconstruction teams investigated and cleared the scene. All lanes reopened at approximately 11:30 a.m. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
