The Maryland State Police are investigating a tragic crash that resulted in the death of a deputy sheriff on Tuesday night. Around 7:30 p.m., police responded to westbound Interstate-68 in Frostburg, Maryland after receiving reports of an accident that involved three vehicles. According to police reports, the crash occurred after a 2017 Ford Explorer rear-ended a tractor-trailer and was later sent into the following lane, where it was struck by a 2004 Ford F350 truck on its driver’s side.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was identified as Corey Douglas McElroy, age 31. He was airlifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital where he unfortunately passed away. McElroy was a deputy sheriff who was driving an unmarked car when he got into a crash. The road was closed until 10:50 p.m. Maryland State Police are investigating the incident.
