Garbage Man Hit and Killed While Working His Route in Frederick County

It’s a tragedy when someone’s life is cut short, especially when it happens while they’re simply doing their job. That’s what happened early Wednesday morning when 55-year-old Jose Gomes, the driver of a garbage truck, was hit by an SUV on Green Valley Road in Frederick County. Maryland State Police are investigating the fatal accident, which involved the two vehicles.

According to investigators, Gomes and his co-worker were working to empty trash cans when a 2006 Subaru Outback hit him. The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene while officials conducted an investigation and cleared the road. Sadly, medics pronounced Gomes dead upon arriving at Frederick Health Hospital.

The coworker and the driver of the SUV were not injured in the accident. The investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing, with the Maryland State Police Crash team leading the way. Although it’s a lengthy process, officials are ensuring that everything is covered in detail to determine what happened. Once the team concludes their investigation, the findings will be handed over to Frederick County State’s Attorney’s office, who will determine whether charges will be filed.

The community is devastated by the loss of this hard working member of society, and those who knew Gomes mourn his passing. Maryland State Police are investigating the crash, and we can only hope for answers and closure for his family and loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time.
