Incident Information

On December 2, 2022, at approximately 5:13 p.m., the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office was called to respond to a motor vehicle collision in the 21600 block of Great Mills Road in Lexington Park. Upon arrival, it was determined that a 1994 Ford Ranger driven by Walter Tyrone Waul, 55 of Callaway, had struck Eugene Elis Wood who was crossing Great Mills Road on a motorized wheelchair. Preliminary investigations revealed that Mr. Wood suffered incapacitating injuries, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment where he was later pronounced deceased. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit then responded to the scene and launched an investigation into the tragic incident.  At this time, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
