School Bus Crash in Calvert County Results in One Death

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A fatal crash involving a school bus and a box truck on Route 231 near Sea Gull Beach Road resulted in one death and multiple injuries on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau responded to the scene shortly after 9 a.m., leading to a road closure and a thorough investigation by the Crash Reconstruction Unit.

The school bus, which was carrying 12 students and a driver, was involved in the collision. Emergency responders assessed all individuals on the bus, with two students being transported to CalvertHealth Medical Center for minor injuries. The conditions of the other students and the bus driver have not been released, and no further transports from the bus were reported.

The box truck driver, identified as Richard Yonathan Murillo Vera, 50, of Crofton, was also transported to CalvertHealth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. A passenger in the truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ground EMS for treatment. Information about the passenger’s identity and condition has not been provided.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the cause of the collision. Preliminary details regarding factors such as speed, road conditions, or mechanical issues have not been disclosed. Route 231 at Sea Gull Beach Road was closed after the incident, and drivers were advised to use alternate routes while emergency operations and investigations continued.
