Victim identified as motorcyclist who died after collision with tractor-trailer
Incident Information
A fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a tractor-trailer shut down a portion of Interstate 95 in Baltimore after authorities reported a deadly early-morning collision.
According to investigators with the Maryland Transportation Authority Police, the crash occurred on March 9, 2026, in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the O’Donnell Street exit in Baltimore, Maryland. Officials say a motorcyclist traveling along the interstate struck the rear of a tractor-trailer under circumstances that remain under investigation.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after the crash was reported. First responders attempted to provide aid to the rider, but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet publicly released the identity of the victim while family notifications are underway.
The tractor-trailer involved in the incident remained at the scene while investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the collision. Officials have not indicated whether speed, traffic conditions, or other contributing factors played a role in the crash.
Due to the severity of the incident, several lanes of southbound I-95 were temporarily closed as emergency personnel secured the area and conducted a detailed investigation. The lane closures created significant traffic delays during the morning commute as crews worked to clear the wreckage and document the scene.
Motorcycle crashes involving larger commercial vehicles often result in severe or fatal injuries because riders lack the structural protection available to occupants of passenger vehicles. According to national traffic safety data, collisions involving motorcycles and heavy trucks frequently occur when vehicles change lanes, slow unexpectedly, or encounter congestion.
Maryland Transportation Authority Police continue to investigate the crash to determine exactly how the collision occurred. Authorities have not announced whether charges or citations will be issued.
Officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have dash camera footage from the area to contact investigators.
The investigation remains ongoing.
