Incident Information

Maryland State Police are investigating a deadly collision involving a rideshare vehicle, a motorcycle and a suspected hit-and-run driver on Route 301 in Prince George’s County.

Troopers from the College Park Barrack responded at approximately 12:45 a.m. on July 12, 2026, to Route 301 at Governor’s Park Lane.

Investigators said a black Tesla Model 3 was attempting to turn left from Route 301 onto Governor’s Park Lane. The Tesla allegedly failed to yield to a southbound Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which struck the passenger side of the car.

Matthew Eric Vowell, 48, was operating the Harley-Davidson. His passenger was Krystal Ann Vowell, 47. Both were residents of Friendship, Maryland, and both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Adriana Lanae Maxwell, 22, of Glen Burnie, was riding in the rear of the Tesla. Emergency medical personnel also pronounced her dead at the crash site.

The Tesla’s driver survived and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police said they believe the Tesla was being used as a rideshare vehicle when the collision happened.

Investigators also believe an unidentified third vehicle struck the Harley-Davidson’s passenger following the initial impact and then left the scene. Authorities had not released a description of that vehicle.

Route 301 remained affected for more than four hours as police documented evidence and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with closures.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation. Once its work is complete, the findings are expected to be sent to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office for a decision regarding possible charges.

Anyone with information about the unidentified vehicle or driver was asked to contact Sergeant Gore at 410-819-4753
