Pedestrian Accident: Burtonsville Woman Fatally Struck at Giant Food Store

A Burtonsville woman was fatally struck in the parking lot of a Giant Food store on December 26, 2024, in an incident that is now under investigation by the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU).

The victim, 37-year-old Michelle Gogan of Burtonsville, was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of the Giant Food store located in the 15000 block of Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville. The collision occurred around 11:30 a.m. when 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene.

The investigation revealed that Gogan had been getting out of the passenger side of her parked vehicle when she was struck by a 2023 silver Mazda CX5. The driver of the Mazda was attempting to park in an adjoining stall when the vehicle struck Gogan, her car, and another parked vehicle. The driver of the Mazda remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

Gogan was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. This tragic incident highlights the dangers pedestrians face in parking lots, which are often thought to be safer than busy roadways.
