Unlicensed Teen Driver Crashes Into Hatchback, Killing 74-Year-Old Woman

A 74-year-old woman was killed Saturday morning after an unlicensed teenage driver crashed into her hatchback in Owings Mills, Baltimore County police reported.

Officers and paramedics were called to the intersection of New Town Boulevard and Middle Mill Drive, near the New Town Village Center, around 11:20 a.m. They found a heavily damaged 2019 Honda Fit with its driver, Patricia Cook, trapped inside. Cook was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that a Jeep, driven by a 16-year-old, was heading north on New Town Boulevard “at a potentially high rate of speed” when it collided with Cook’s vehicle as she attempted to turn left onto the roadway. Police said the teenager fled on foot but was later returned to the scene by a family member.

Charges against the teen are pending. Police have not said whether the driver was arrested or if intoxication is suspected.

The Baltimore County Police Crash Team is continuing its investigation.
