State trooper among those injured in early-morning Baltimore County collision
Incident Information
A Maryland state trooper and two motorists were taken to hospitals after an early-morning, multi-vehicle crash in a Baltimore County construction zone.
The collision happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. Thursday, September 24, on the Outer Loop/westbound Interstate 695 near Harford Road in the Parkville area.
Maryland State Police identified one driver as Logan Persaud, 25, of Towson. Investigators said Persaud was operating a Honda Ridgeline westbound on the Beltway when it became involved in a rear-end collision with a Chevrolet Equinox.
The crash sequence then entered an active construction zone, where a Maryland State Police vehicle was stationary. The trooper was inside the work area when the police vehicle was struck.
Emergency medical crews transported the trooper by ambulance to a local trauma center. Authorities later said the trooper had been released.
Persaud and the driver of the Chevrolet Equinox were also transported by ambulance to local hospitals. Police did not release detailed information about their injuries.
Maryland State Police subsequently charged Persaud with driving under the influence. The charge reflects the allegations in the ongoing case; the crash investigation had not been completed at the time of the reports.
Officials said all westbound lanes in the work area had been closed when the collision occurred. The incident drew additional attention to the danger faced by law enforcement officers, construction personnel and other workers positioned along high-speed highways.
State police continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the initial rear-end collision and the subsequent impact inside the work zone.
The reported location was the I-695 interchange area at Harford Road, which is Exit 31 on the Baltimore Beltway. The coordinate below represents the interchange area rather than a precisely surveyed point of impact.
