Anthony Bowers Jr., 20, died; two other occupants were hospitalized
Incident Information
A police pursuit that began outside a Jessup convenience store ended in a fatal crash that killed a 20-year-old Baltimore man and sent two other people to a hospital.
Authorities identified the man who died as Anthony Bowers Jr., 20, of Baltimore.
The incident began during the early-morning hours of Sunday, September 6, near a Royal Farms store in the 7100 block of Montevideo Road in Jessup.
According to investigators, Bowers was associated with a 2018 Infiniti Q60 that backed into a parked police vehicle and then left the area.
A Howard County police officer pursued the Infiniti.
Authorities said the pursuit ended roughly a mile from where it began when the Infiniti crashed into a retaining wall.
Bowers was pronounced dead at the crash scene.
Two other people who had been inside the Infiniti were transported to a hospital. Authorities later described them as being in stable condition.
The officer involved in the pursuit was identified by CBS Baltimore as Amir Parker, a six-year veteran of the Howard County Police Department assigned to the Traffic Management Division. Parker was not reported injured.
The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division became involved because the fatal crash occurred in connection with a police pursuit.
Investigators are examining the events preceding the crash, including the initial encounter, the decision to pursue, the path taken by the Infiniti and the circumstances of the final impact.
The available reports did not identify another moving vehicle as being involved in the fatal collision itself.
