Fatal Motorcycle Hit And Run Collision on Route 301

Incident Information

The evening of Saturday, August 12, 2023, in Maryland was a typical summer night until a report of a serious motor vehicle collision on United States Route 301 near Maryland Route 234 came in at approximately 9:17pm. Troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack immediately responded and rushed to the scene, but due to the severity of the incident, the MSP CRASH Team joined in to take over the investigation. According to preliminary investigations by the MSP La Plata Barrack and MSP CRASH Team, it was revealed that a Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by John Milton Jones, age 57 from Heathsville, VA collided into the back of a Kia Rio that was evidently slowing down in preparation to make a left turn onto Budds Creek Rd. The driver of the Kia was identified as 68 year old Stanley Chrusciel of Clinton, MD.  

Mr. Jones, sadly, lost his life after being ejected from his motorcycle, landing in lane one of the southbound side and then struck by two unknown vehicles that did not stop to help and fled the scene. The investigation is ongoing, but it is believed that one of the vehicles involved was a Jaguar, although the model is still unknown and the other vehicle has yet to be identified. The callousness of the drivers who did not remain at the scene is incomprehensible. Investigators are doing everything in their power to bring justice to Mr. Jones and his loved ones at this time.

The troopers are working tirelessly to piece together the events that led to this unfortunate moment and It’s a crucial reminder to us all to remain vigilant when on the road and always drive defensively. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Jones’ loved ones during this difficult time.
