Paramedic Dies in Three-Vehicle I-95 Crash

A Southern Maryland paramedic who spent more than two decades helping injured and critically ill patients died Tuesday morning in a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 95 in Baltimore.

Kevin Wells, 40, was riding a blue Suzuki motorcycle northbound near the Russell Street exit shortly before 7 a.m. on July 14, 2026. According to information released by the Maryland Transportation Authority Police, the motorcycle became involved in a collision with a silver Hyundai sedan and a white Chevrolet SUV.

Wells was killed at the scene.

He had reportedly been traveling home after completing an overnight shift at Maryland ExpressCare, where he worked full-time as a critical-care transport paramedic for the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Wells also volunteered with Calvert Advanced Life Support and worked part-time for Charles County Emergency Medical Services. Colleagues said he had served in emergency medical services since he was 18 years old and had helped train or mentor hundreds of people during his career.

Those who worked alongside Wells remembered him not only for his medical knowledge but also for his personality. Jonathan Siegel of Calvert Advanced Life Support described him as a “gentle giant.” Former ambulance partner Nancy Nurse spoke about the profound effect his death had on the emergency-services community.

Coworkers also recalled Wells as an enthusiastic and highly skilled cook who frequently prepared meals for members of his team. Dr. Ben Lawner, medical director of University of Maryland ExpressCare, said Wells was regarded as both a friend and a member of the workplace family.

Investigators had not announced which vehicle initiated the collision or what factors may have contributed to it. The crash remained under investigation.
