Baltimore Pedestrian Dies After Brooklyn Hit-and-Run

Baltimore police are searching for the driver involved in an early-morning hit-and-run that ultimately claimed the life of a pedestrian in the city’s Brooklyn neighborhood.

Police said officers responded at approximately 5:57 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, to the 400 block of East Patapsco Avenue for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck.

Responding officers and emergency personnel located a 46-year-old man suffering from injuries described as life-threatening.

Paramedics transported the victim to an area hospital for emergency treatment. Despite those efforts, police said the man later died from his injuries.

His identity had not been publicly released in the initial reports.

Investigators said the vehicle responsible for the collision had already left the area before officers arrived. Authorities had not publicly provided a make, model or detailed description of the fleeing vehicle at the time of the report.

Members of the Baltimore Police Department’s crash investigation team are working to determine what happened immediately before the pedestrian was struck and to identify the driver involved.

The 400 block of East Patapsco Avenue lies in South Baltimore’s Brooklyn area, where Patapsco Avenue carries traffic through a mixture of residential and commercial corridors.

Hit-and-run investigations can depend heavily on nearby surveillance systems, witness observations, vehicle debris and other physical or electronic evidence that could help investigators identify the vehicle.

Police had not announced an arrest or charges when the initial report was released.

The case remains under investigation as authorities work to establish the vehicle’s direction of travel, determine the circumstances of the collision and locate the person who left the scene.
