Golf Cart Passenger Airlifted After Owings Crash

A nighttime golf cart ride in Calvert County ended with a woman being flown to a trauma center after she was thrown from the vehicle and struck her head on a concrete surface.

Emergency personnel were dispatched at approximately 9:05 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, to the 5900 block of Scaggs Road in Owings. Initial reports described a serious accident involving a golf cart and indicated that at least one person had sustained a significant injury.

Investigators were told that the golf cart traveled over a pothole, causing a female passenger to be ejected. The woman reportedly landed on concrete and suffered a head injury. Emergency crews found her conscious but bleeding from the head when they reached the scene.

Because of the nature of the injury, authorities requested assistance from the Maryland State Police Aviation Command. Trooper 2 landed near the accident site and transported the woman by helicopter to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center.
