Severn Driver Critically Injured in Route 100 Crash

A 21-year-old Severn man suffered life-threatening injuries after an Audi crashed through multiple barriers and caught fire near the Route 100 and Route 10 interchange in Anne Arundel County.

According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, the single-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, September 8.

Investigators said a 2018 Audi sedan was traveling northbound on Route 100 as it approached the merge with Route 10.

Police said the Audi failed to negotiate the curve and struck a guardrail on the driver’s side.

The vehicle continued out of control along Route 100, went through an opposite guardrail and then struck a light pole.

After the impact, the Audi caught fire.

Witnesses at the crash scene were able to pull the driver from the burning vehicle before emergency crews transported him for medical treatment.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department took the 21-year-old man to an area hospital with injuries police described as life-threatening.

Authorities did not publicly release his name in the initial report.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the collision. The agency had not announced a final cause, and the report did not identify whether speed, impairment, distraction, mechanical failure or another factor played a role.

The sequence of impacts left investigators with several points of physical evidence to examine, including the initial guardrail strike, the vehicle’s path across the roadway, the second barrier and the light-pole collision.

No other vehicles were identified as being involved.
