78-Year-Old Man Dead in Crash on Route 165 in Harford County

Incident Information

Tragically close to 1pm, a fatal collision took place in Harford County on Thursday afternoon. Reports state that a car collided with a dump truck on Rt. 165 near Furnace Road and Huntfield Way. Officers from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office immediately rushed to the scene of the accident.

The driver of a BMW 328i, identified as John Derwart, 78, lost his life in a collision with the construction vehicle. Scott Thommen, 54, was behind the wheel of the construction vehicle, skillfully maneuvering through a work zone when the accident occurred. The unfortunate incident took place with no passengers in the construction vehicle, while Joan Bridges, 81, was in the BMW at the time of the crash. Thankfully, Bridges was taken to a nearby hospital for a precautionary check-up.
