Incident Information

Eleven people were transported to hospitals after a passenger van collided with a tractor-trailer and overturned on Interstate 695 in Baltimore County.

The collision occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. Sunday, September 6, along westbound I-695 near the Interstate 70 interchange.

According to Maryland State Police information reported by CBS Baltimore, a Ford Transit van was traveling on I-695 when the driver attempted to move across multiple lanes toward the I-70 exit.

Investigators said the van crossed approximately three lanes and collided with a tractor-trailer.

The impact caused the Ford Transit to overturn.

Emergency crews responded to the interstate and evaluated the occupants. Eleven passengers from the van were transported to area hospitals for medical treatment.

Initial reporting did not specify the full extent of their injuries.

The make and model of the tractor portion of the commercial vehicle were not publicly identified.

State police continued investigating what led to the lane movement and collision. The initial report did not provide a final determination about fault or identify whether citations had been issued.

The I-70/I-695 interchange is a major highway connection in Baltimore County, carrying significant passenger and commercial traffic.

A crash involving an overturned multi-passenger van and a tractor-trailer can require a substantial emergency response, both to treat occupants and to manage traffic around the scene.

Authorities had not reported a death in connection with this collision, but the hospital transport of 11 people made it one of the more significant injury crashes reported in the Baltimore area during the five-day review period.
