Head-On Collision in Edgemere Leaves Driver Dead

A head-on collision in Edgemere killed a 50-year-old driver after investigators say a Ford pickup crossed the centerline and struck her Lexus.

Baltimore County police identified the woman as Halina Tsishchanka, 50.

The collision occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, September 5, near North Point Road and Shaws Road in the Edgemere area.

According to preliminary information reported by local news outlets, a Ford F-250 was traveling at what police described as a high rate of speed before crossing the roadway’s double yellow centerlines.

The pickup then collided head-on with Tsishchanka’s Lexus.

Emergency medical personnel responded, but Tsishchanka was pronounced dead as a result of the collision.

Multiple reports identified her vehicle as a Lexus TX500b. Authorities had not publicly announced charges when the initial reports were published.

Baltimore County’s Crash Team is investigating the fatal collision and working to establish the circumstances that caused the pickup to cross into opposing traffic.

The investigation is expected to include an examination of vehicle evidence, roadway markings, physical evidence from the crash scene and any available witness or electronic information.

The North Point Road corridor serves communities in southeastern Baltimore County, including Edgemere and Sparrows Point.

Head-on crashes can produce severe forces because vehicles traveling in opposite directions combine their relative speeds during impact. In this case, police specifically reported that the pickup crossed the double yellow lines before the fatal collision.

The investigation remained active following the crash, and authorities had not released a final reconstruction or announced whether enforcement action would follow.
