Incident Information

A tragic accident has taken place north of Pittsville resulting in one death and 16 people left injured. Maryland State Police responded to the scene shortly before 3:45 a.m on May 13, where they found a crash involving three cars and one tractor-trailer at 9049 Gumboro Road. The incident occurred when three vehicles were stopped in the southbound travel portion of Route 353. As an investigation revealed, a Kia Forte was disabled and attempting a jump start from a GMC Acadia while a Chevrolet Express van stopped ahead of the two cars in the road. Investigation reports indicate that the tractor trailer hit the Kia from behind and the passenger side of the Acadia, causing a chain reaction.

Unfortunately, the driver of the Kia, Eliassaint Aussideu from Salisbury, lost his life in the incident. Another victim, Joseus Gerlie of Fruitland, was flown to Johns Hopkins Hospital for medical attention. The Acadia was driven by Geraldine Phaurod, also from Salisbury, who had one other passenger with her. Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet Express van, Jenise Mondestin from Salisbury, had twelve passengers on board during the crash. Thankfully, multiple fire and rescue companies responded to the scene with EMS personnel treating 15 individuals. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation.
