Police Officer is Hospitalized After Crash Caused by an Intoxicated Driver

TAKOMA PARK, Md. — A Takoma Park police officer is in the hospital after a two-vehicle crash on Monday evening. A day later, authorities confirmed that the other driver was impaired at the time of the crash.

Montgomery County Police Department officers responded to the scene at the intersection of Piney Branch and Park Valley Road around 7:30 p.m. The officer, who has not yet been identified, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The woman driving the other vehicle was also taken to the hospital, but her injuries were described as minor.

Investigators say the police officer was driving his marked cruiser when the other driver crashed into him. Authorities are continuing to examine the cause of the crash.

It remains unclear whether the officer’s cruiser was equipped with a dashboard camera or if the officer was wearing a body camera at the time of the collision. Investigators are expected to review any available footage for additional insight.

The impaired driver is expected to face DUI charges, along with other traffic-related offenses. This incident is under ongoing investigation, and additional details may be released as more information becomes available.
