Teens Rear-End Snow Removal Dump Truck, Resulting in One Death and One Hospitalization
Incident Information
FEDERALSBURG, Md. – Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred over the weekend, resulting in the death of a teenager from Caroline County.
The incident took place just before midnight on Sunday, when Maryland State Police responded to a crash report on Route 313, just north of Chipmans Lane in Federalsburg. Preliminary findings suggest that a 2010 Ford Fusion was traveling along Route 313 when it collided with a dump truck. The truck had been stopped partially on the shoulder and in the roadway for snow removal and salt operations.
The passenger in the Ford, 17-year-old Trevor Whiteley, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 19-year-old Nathan D’Orlando, was airlifted to Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police Aviation.
The dump truck driver, 24-year-old William Andrew, declined medical transport.
A post-crash inspection of the dump truck is being conducted, and authorities are investigating whether alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
