Teenage Bicyclist Dies After Lochearn Collision

A 13-year-old Baltimore County bicyclist has died from injuries sustained in a late-August collision in Lochearn, nearly two weeks after he was struck by a vehicle.

Baltimore County police identified the teenager as Caden Morgan, 13.

The original collision occurred on Friday, August 28, near the intersection of Essex Road and Yataruba Drive in Lochearn.

According to investigators, Morgan was riding his bicycle on Yataruba Drive toward Essex Road. As he entered the intersection, he was struck by a 2017 Audi traveling northbound on Essex Road.

Emergency personnel transported Morgan to a hospital for treatment after the crash. Police announced on September 9 that he had died the previous day, Tuesday, September 8.

The driver of the Audi remained at the scene following the collision.

Baltimore County police have not publicly identified the motorist, and the available reports did not specify the precise Audi model. Authorities also had not announced criminal charges or traffic citations in connection with the crash at the time of the update.

The Baltimore County Police Department’s Crash Team is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Investigators typically examine factors such as vehicle movement, roadway evidence, visibility, witness information and other available evidence when reconstructing fatal traffic crashes. Police have not publicly identified which factors, if any, contributed to this collision.

Morgan’s death came during a period in which Baltimore County investigators were handling multiple fatal bicycle crashes. Another cyclist, James Bandoch, died in a separate collision involving a dump truck on September 8.

The Lochearn case remains an active investigation, and additional details could be released as the Crash Team completes its review.
