Incident Information

Authorities are investigating a St. Mary’s County hit-and-run that left a motorcyclist with extensive injuries and required emergency air transport to a trauma center.

Police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel were dispatched at approximately 8:53 p.m. on September 25, 2026, to the area of Patuxent Beach Road and Oak Drive in California, Maryland.

Emergency dispatch information initially indicated that a motorcycle had collided with another vehicle. The other vehicle did not remain at the scene.

Responding personnel found the motorcyclist off the roadway suffering from serious injuries. A paramedic requested a helicopter because of the rider’s condition.

Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 met the ambulance crew at the airport in Hollywood and transported the patient to a regional trauma center. The rider was reported to be conscious and alert during the air transport.

Subsequent information provided to Southern Maryland News Net indicated the victim suffered significant orthopedic and soft-tissue injuries, including fractures to the hand, femur and tibia, a severed tendon and road rash. The rider reportedly required multiple surgeries.

Police are looking for a vehicle described as a red Toyota RAV4 with a spare tire mounted on the tailgate. No additional identifying information about the vehicle was immediately available.

The victim’s name was not released in the report.

Patuxent Beach Road in this area is Maryland Route 4. Maryland highway records place Oak Drive along MD 4 a short distance north of the MD 235/Three Notch Road junction.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
