Incident Information

Prince George’s County police are searching for two drivers after a Laurel pedestrian was struck by two vehicles in an early-morning hit-and-run.

Police identified the man who died as 52-year-old Ernesto Chocoj Caal of Laurel.

According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, officers were called to Laurel Bowie Road near Briarwood Drive at approximately 4:15 a.m. Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Responding officers found Caal in the roadway suffering from traumatic injuries. He died at the scene.

Investigators with the department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit determined during the preliminary investigation that Caal was struck in the southbound lanes of Laurel Bowie Road, also known as Maryland Route 197.

Police believe two separate vehicles hit him. Both drivers left the area rather than remaining at the scene.

Authorities have not publicly released makes, models or descriptions of either vehicle involved. They also have not announced what circumstances led Caal to be in the roadway before the collision.

Investigators are particularly interested in video that could show traffic in the area around the time of the crash. Police asked drivers, nearby residents and businesses to review dash-camera, doorbell and surveillance footage, noting that even video that does not appear significant could help reconstruct the events.

Planning records identify 13910 Laurel Bowie Road as property immediately at the northwest quadrant of the Laurel Bowie Road and Briarwood Drive intersection, confirming the location of the crash area.

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate. Police listed the incident under case number 26-0051473.
