Car Accident: One Critically Injured on Crain Highway

A dramatic incident unfolded on Crain Highway (Route 3) near Waugh Chapel Road in Gambrills on April 22, 2024, at approximately 10:25 a.m., resulting in serious harm to one of the drivers involved.

At the heart of the collision were a 2009 Peterbilt flatbed tow truck and a 2012 Honda Pilot. The tow truck had come to a halt at a red signal, but the Honda Pilot failed to heed the traffic, crashing into the stationary truck. The impact sent the Honda careening off the road, finally coming to a stop amidst the greenery lining the roadside.

Trapped inside the crumpled Honda was a 59-year-old man from Baltimore. It took the combined efforts of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department to extricate him from the wreck. Subsequently, he was whisked away to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, his condition listed as grave and life-threatening, aboard Maryland State Police Trooper 2.

Thankfully, the 65-year-old man from Abingdon, who was behind the wheel of the tow truck, emerged from the chaos unscathed.

Now, the Anne Arundel County Police Department Traffic Safety Section has taken charge of the investigation. As they delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the crash, updates will be shared with the public.
