Incident Information

EASTON, Md. – The Easton Police Department (EPD) and Maryland State Police (MSP) are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a cyclist over the weekend.

Around 7:50 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, EPD officers responded to westbound Ocean Gateway near Woodbridge Drive after a passerby reported finding a bicycle and an unresponsive person.

When officers arrived, they discovered extensive vehicle debris and the body of a 68-year-old man beneath a tree. Police said officers attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A joint preliminary investigation by EPD and the MSP Crash Team determined that the victim had likely been struck earlier that morning by a tractor-trailer or box truck. Investigators believe the vehicle has front passenger-side damage, including a missing mirror.

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
