Three Killed in Adelphi Intersection Collision

Prince George’s County authorities are investigating a late-night collision in Adelphi that killed three people and sent two others to a hospital.

Officers responded at approximately 11:25 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, to the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Metzerott Road. The crash involved a motorcycle and two other vehicles.

An adult man operating the motorcycle died at the scene. An adult male driver and an adult female passenger traveling in another vehicle were also pronounced dead before they could be transported to a hospital.

Police initially withheld their names while working to notify their families.

Two people traveling in one of the vehicles survived the collision. Emergency personnel transported both occupants to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

A preliminary investigation found that the motorcycle and one of the other vehicles were traveling north on New Hampshire Avenue as they approached Metzerott Road.

At the same time, a third vehicle was attempting to turn left onto Metzerott Road. For reasons that had not yet been established, that vehicle collided with the northbound motorcycle and the other vehicle.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit assumed responsibility for the investigation. Reconstruction specialists typically examine physical evidence, vehicle damage, roadway markings, traffic-control devices and available video to determine how a deadly collision unfolded.

Authorities had not announced whether speed, impairment, distraction or failure to yield contributed to the crash. No criminal charges or traffic citations had been reported in the initial release.

The collision caused a significant emergency response and left investigators working through the night at one of the area’s heavily traveled intersections.
