MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A head-on collision in St. Mary’s County on Friday afternoon, May 30, 2025, resulted in one fatality and left two others with life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred around 1:15 p.m. on Mechanicsville Road near Yowaiski Mill Road. Emergency responders arrived to find one vehicle containing two occupants who were trapped, and another vehicle with a driver who was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Fire crews successfully extricated an adult and a juvenile from the wreckage within 20 minutes. Both were airlifted to a nearby trauma center for treatment of serious injuries.

Authorities are advising drivers to avoid the area and expect prolonged road closures as the investigation continues.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
