Incident Information

ALLEGANY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Several lanes of Interstate 68 were closed Monday after a Maryland State Police (MSP) trooper was struck by a vehicle while on duty.

According to MSP, the trooper was conducting traffic enforcement on westbound I-68 near Exit 39 when a driver hit him. The trooper was airlifted to Shock Trauma for treatment. The driver involved remained at the scene.

As of 1:45 p.m. Monday, westbound lanes in the area were still shut down as investigators worked the scene.

On Tuesday morning, MSP issued a statement expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support from fellow law enforcement, first responders, and community members:

“We are grateful to our fellow law enforcement agencies, first responders, and members of our community, who have reached out with prayers, messages of support, and well wishes for one of our own, who was struck by a vehicle while on duty yesterday in Cumberland.

The Trooper remains under the care of the medical professionals at Shock Trauma. Moments like these are a powerful reminder of the risks law enforcement faces each day in service to others.

As a Department and law enforcement family, we remain united in strength and support for him and his loved ones.

We continue to keep him, his family, friends, and coworkers in our prayers. Thank you.”
