Incident Information

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. — A Maryland man lost his life in a crash on I-70, allegedly caused by a 17-year-old driver.

Maryland State Police responded to the scene Monday on Westbound Interstate 70 to Southound U.S. 29 in Ellicott City after receiving reports of an accident on the I-70 ramp. The victim, identified as Fred Eromosele Ehimen, was driving a Toyota Camry when the crash occurred around 12:30 a.m.

According to a preliminary investigation, the teen was behind the wheel of a 2013 Ford Explorer traveling from Baltimore. He was driving in the wrong direction on I-70 when he collided head-on with Ehimen.

The teen had two passengers in the vehicle—a 13-year-old and a 16-year-old. He was airlifted to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma, while both passengers were transported to local hospitals by ambulance. Their current conditions remain unknown.

Ehimen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities revealed that prior to the crash, a Frederick County Sheriff’s deputy had identified the Ford as a stolen vehicle. When they attempted to pull the teen over, he refused to stop, leading to a pursuit that was called off “several miles” before the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
